as one of his “Super Food Heroes” in his new book.

his television series Rick Stein has done much to raise the awareness
of the small-scale producers who value the
taste and quality of food above profit.
He has now gathered together a collection of his own recommended
suppliers from Britain and Ireland, a selection of truly dedicated
producers.”
Mervin and Marie-Christine Austin in their True Loaf Bakery at
Mount Pleasant Windmill are absolutely thrilled to have been chosen
as one of his Food Heroes along with only another 11 suppliers
for the whole of Lincolnshire county.

Furthermore, Rick Stein has selected for each category – bread,
meat, fish etc.. – Super Food Heroes, producers whom he believes
stand out from the crowd in terms of the work that they do and
the quality of the food they produce.”
… .and in the Bread category, Mervin was again chosen and this time
as his Super Food Hero!
Praise indeed, from “one of Britain’s most trusted
authorities on food”.

2003 WAITROSE AND THE TIMES
SMALL PRODUCERS AWARD
KIRTON MILL IS A WINNER, The Scunthorpe Evening Telegraph,
July 2003
“A
North Lincolnshire company has been recognised for excellence
and innovation among small food producers.
Mount Pleasant Windmill in Kirton-in-Lindsey produces organic
flour, which was voted top of the grocery section in the
Waitrose Small Producers’ Awards, in association
with The Times newspaper.
The competition was open to small producers, which employ
fewer than 10 permanent employees, and it attracted hundreds
of entries from all over the UK.
There were six sections: dairy and ice-cream, grocery,
fresh produce, bakery, deli and recipe dishes and drinks.”
For the last stage of the competition Mount Pleasant Windmill
was competing against 12 other UK businesses. Among the
judges were Steven Esom, Waitrose Managing Director, Jane
Wheatley, The Times Editor and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall
one of our most famous celebrity chefs.
And the WINNER of the grocery section is……….MOUNT
PLEASANT WINDMILL ORGANIC FLOUR.
Needless to say that Mervin and Marie-Christine Austin
were absolutely delighted!
